Jermaine Jones is ready for the World Cup qualifier against Mexico, even moreso when it comes to longtime thorn Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez.
Jones, 35, has 65 caps for the U.S. heading into Friday’s match in Columbus, Ohio, and has tangled with Mexico five times. The Yanks are 2w-2D-1L in those matches.
[ PST: “This guy’s crazy, but he can play” ]
That’s the same record Mexico has with Hernandez in the rivalry with the United States. It’s fair to say both players are hated by the other side’s fans, and so it was with baited breath that we waited for Jones’ answer when asked for his feelings on Chicharito.
Watch the full video here, from Univision:
“Everybody who knows Chicharito knows he’s played always on the line. I’m not saying a dirty player but he’s always on that edge.
“He’s always talking, ‘Referee, here, referee, here’. You can see (on the linked video), I pulled him aside and said, ‘Small boy come here, we have to talk’. After the game everything was cool.”
It’s too late for “Small boy come here” Tifo, but man I wish American fans had that info earlier in the game.
Oddly enough, Jones and Chicharito have loads in common, including spending time with Hernandez’s current club at Bayer Leverkusen.
