It was a busy night of 2018 World Cup qualifying action in South America as the CONMEBOL region continues to be ridiculously exciting but plenty of the big boys are now starting to ramp things up a notch.

After their latest victory Brazil lead the way with 27 points, while Uruguay sit in second spot in the standings on 23 but after that it’s all very congested with only the top four teams qualifying automatically for Russia 2018.
It looks like it will be two teams to qualify automatically from Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and Colombia, with one of those to miss out completely and another going into the playoff with the Oceania federation winner. Yup, it’s tight.
Here’s a look at the full standings for CONMEBOL qualifying through 12 of it’s 18 rounds as we’re two thirds of the way through.

Peru 0-2 Brazil
A big road win for the Seleceao as Gabriel Jesus and Renato Augusto both scored to put Brazil top of qualifying with 27 points from their 12 games so far. They’re also eight points clear of Argentina who occupy the playoff spot so, yeah, looks like the five-time World Cup champs will be going to Russia 2018.
Argentina 3-0 Colombia
After losing to Brazil last week, Argentina got back on track in fine fashion. That said, Messi and his teammates had a message for the Argentina media…
Chile 3-1 Uruguay
A tight first half saw the teams drawing 1-1 at the break:

Ecuador 3-0 Venezuela
Bolivia 1-0 Paraguay
An own goal from Gustavo Gomez 12 minutes from time gave Bolivia just its second win of the campaign and put a big dent in Paraguay’s chances of pushing into the top four.
