How would Yaya Toure respond to his classy return to the Manchester City fold?

Professionally.

The Manchester City man scored twice in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, making his first PL start of the season after apologizing to manager Pep Guardiola.

Toure’s agent Dimitri Seluk had caused plenty of problems for the player, who now has shown signs of doing the unexpected: turning over a new leaf at 35.

He got an ovation from his teammates for his work, and was asked about it.

From the BBC:

“They have always been brilliant with me, always supportive. I always want to be there to help them. I am professional, I always want to improve my game. I was prepared mentally and I knew that one day my manager would need me. You must always stay professional.”

“Maybe my prediction is it will be like 2014. It will go to the end, but we have quality players who can score at any moment.”

He looked rusty, even lumbering early, but did much good with the ball at his feet. The teamwork on the first goal looked vintage Barcelona, and he was the key component.

It’s oh-so-early for him, but a fired up, consistent Toure could tip the scales in the Premier League’s title race.
