Watford 2-1 Leicester City: Pereyra’s star turn keeps Foxes down

  • Watford scores two early
  • Mahrez closes gap
  • Watford eighth, Leicester 15th
  • Thirty-five seconds was all it took for Etienne Capoue to find the back of the net, setting the stage for a thriller at Vicarage Road.

Roberto Pereyra had a goal and an assist in the first 20 minutes, and that was enough to move Watford a point back of 7th place Everton.

Jamie Vardy won a penalty that Riyad Mahrez converted, but that was all the Foxes could muster in a match that left them just two points clear of the drop zone.

Watford opened through Capoue, who benefited from a Troy Deeney flick to finish behind Ron Robert-Zeiler. Roberto Pereyra provided the cross.

Pereyra turned scorer soon after, finding his way inside from the left before ripping a shot upper 90 from just outside the 18. 2-0, break up the Hornets!

Leicester, in a way, would do just that. Jamie Vardy was taken to turf inside the 18, and Heurelho Gomes could not stop Mahrez’s offering.

Juan Camilo Zuniga then fouled Vardy just outside the 18 to give Leicester another chance at goal. Wes Morgan could not reach Mahrez’s service, and it remained 2-1 to the hosts.
