Hector Bellerin has made a huge decision.
He is staying at Arsenal.
The pacey Spanish right back, 21, has had plenty of interest from hometown team Barcelona (whom he joined Arsenal’s youth team from in 2011) and Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester City but on Monday he revealed that he’s signed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Bellerin was voted as the best right back in the Premier League in the PFA vote last season and his aggressive displays from full back have helped him become a regular over the past two seasons after coming through Arsenal’s academy.
“I just signed my new deal with the club,” Bellerin confirmed. “I am really, really, really happy. As you know I’ve been here for a long time and I feel like this is my home and this is the right thing for me to do. I am very happy to be a Gunner for many more years.”
Bellerin is currently out injured for the next three weeks but he’s been superb once again at the start of this season for an Arsenal side who look much more solid defensively than in recent campaigns.
His ability to link up with Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and others down the right adds a huge amount to Arsenal’s attacks and that has caught the attention of Manchester City and his former club Barcelona. The links with the latter have intensified in recent months and although Bellerin is a Barca boy it appears that, just like Cesc Fabregas, a return to the Nou Camp may only come a little later in his career.
Make no mistake about it, Bellerin’s decision to sign a new deal will be very helpful in the current contract negotiations of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as both of the influential attackers are currently discussing new deals with the Gunners.
