Claudio Ranieri didn’t mention the title fight until well into Leicester City’s surprising 2015-16 season.

He’s not going to wait any longer to address his Foxes’ plight at the other end of the table.

Leicester has advanced to the Champions League knockout rounds has continued its early season struggles into the midseason following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough.

The home side trailed twice, needing to come back through Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani penalty kicks. The fight back was fine, but the Foxes need wins.

From the BBC:

“Now we could be tired but fortunately the character and spirit of the group is good. We knew it was a tough match, twice fighting back is not easy.

“It was important not have to have three Premier League defeats. Lucky is someone who believes in something more. I feel we have to fight until the end of season. We are fighting for a relegation battle.”

It’s difficult to imagine, given its quality, that Leicester will remain in the relegation picture even if it survives deep into the UCL knockout rounds. But it must be noted that even in their slow start, Leicester are getting points via penalties and other fortuitous breaks. Could there be a struggle ahead?
