The January transfer window is almost here and the rumors are starting to swirl.
According to multiple outlets in the UK, including Sky Sports and the Guardian, Manchester City are said to be interested in signing Alexis Sanchez and Virgil Van Dijk.
Just when you thought the Premier League leaders may have started to relax a little after 16-straight wins and an 11-point lead atop the table…
It is believed Pep Guardiola has told the City hierarchy that those two players are at the top of his transfer wish list, along with a new central midfielder as Yaya Toure is expected to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
The deal for Sanchez said to be relaxed with the Premier League leaders willing to wait until July 1 to sign him on a free transfer if he doesn’t sign a new deal at Arsenal. Sanchez, 29, came close to joining City in the summer but Arsenal turned down a Deadline Day deal for the Chilean forward.
City are said to have already reached out to Southampton about the possibility of signing van Dijk in January. The Dutch defender, 26, was left out of Saints’ starting lineup at the weekend as they lost 1-0 at Chelsea and VVD’s future at St Mary’s seems uncertain after he handed in a transfer request last summer but was denied a $80 million move to to Liverpool.
Since then VVD has worked his way back into Saints’ team after a long injury layoff but his heart doesn’t appear to be at Southampton anymore.
Both players would further strengthen an incredible strong City squad and Sanchez would be able to slot into the front three of City’s attack perfectly with Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus currently rotating in those three positions.
As for van Dijk, he is seen as a long-term replacement for Vincent Kompany with the Man City skipper and center back struggling with injury for most of this season and City also having John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala in those positions.
