Manchester United losing, at Old Trafford, to already-relegated Cardiff City would have perhaps been the most fitting end to a thoroughly disappointing season for the Red Devils, so that’s what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side went out and did on Sunday.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing did it all on the opening goal: he won the penalty kick after he was taken down inside the box, and he stepped up to convert and beat David De Gea with a cool finish to his right.

It was Mendez-Laing who bagged the Bluebirds’ second goal as well. Bobby Reid played Josh Murphy down the flank and Mendez-Laing popped up in front of goal to turn home an easy square ball from Murphy.

Cardiff will now head back down to the EFL Championship, while United will begin what is sure to be a massive overhaul and rebuild of the first-team squad this summer.
