Sergino Dest to Barcelona official: Ajax has sold USMNT right back Sergino Dest to Barcelona, where the player will sign a contract through the 2024-25 season.
Dest, 19, will have a buyout clause of $470 million in his contract after Barca won a transfer battle with Bayern Munich for the Dutch-American.

Barcelona says the transfer will cost just under $25 million with approximately another $6 million possible in incentives. The club has posted a video of Dest’s first 24 hours at Barca on its site.
Ronald Koeman spoke on the transfer Wednesday, praising Dest and fellow American teen Konrad de la Fuente as boding well for the future of the USMNT.
Capped thrice by the United States after the Yanks won a recruitment battle with the Netherlands, Dest went 90 minutes in eight of Ajax’s last 10 Eredivisie matches last season and came off the bench in their league matches this season as the transfer situation was sorted.
Barca sold Nelson Semedo to Wolves and used Sergi Roberto at right back in its La Liga opener, so Dest will have every opportunity to make it instant impact on the same pitch as Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, and Gerard Pique.
It’s a good time to be a USMNT fan (let alone its coach Gregg Berhalter).
