Matchweek 17 Premier League odds: First-place Liverpool meets Man United

Liverpool has kept it clean and tidy of late against Manchester United, and neither team’s recent form offers much hint of that changing drastically.

League-leading Liverpool is the -175 favorite with Manchester United a +525 underdog, with the draw offering +315 on the three-way moneyline and a 2.5-goals total on the Premier League odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Liverpool has been impenetrable at Anfield, with clean sheets in 11 of their last 12 home matches in the league, and it has also blanked Manchester United in its last three home matchups in all competitions.

The best value on Liverpool is to keep a clean sheet (+135), with a shutout victory (+185) being a chancier proposition. Manchester United, with Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young returning to the starting lineup after being spotted in a midweek Champions League game, does offer plus money on the double chance (+140).

Manchester City (-500) tends to have its way with Everton (+1200, draw +600), which it carries an eight-game unbeaten streak against (all competitions) into a Saturday matchup. A minus-2.0 goals spread at online betting sites and 3.5-goals total have killed some of the betting value on Man City, but Gabriel Jesus (+350 first scorer, -125 anytime) could offer a nice payout if he benefits from Sergio Aguero resting with an injury.

Crystal Palace (+170) takes on Leicester City (+190, draw +220) with Wilfried Zaha (ankle/leg) questionable to play. Leicester will likely have striker Jamie Vardy (groin; +450 first scorer, +200 anytime) healthy and it has scored in its last nine away matches in the league, making a straight both teams to score pick (-105) the percentage play while Leicester win / yes (+575) is a longer shot.

Huddersfield Town (+160) is in the relegation zone and Newcastle United (+215, draw +210) is wobbling just above it, which could make for a conservatively played match. With neither team being in convincing score, a 1-0 finish (+240) in correct score props offers slightly more value, while Laurent Depoitre (+500 first scorer) will be drawing into a depleted Huddersfield front line.

Fulham (+190) and West Ham United (+145, draw +255) have gone over 2.5 goals in their last six matches (all competitions), and there are strong scoring trends as Fulham has allowed multiple goals in 13 of its last 16 matches, while West Ham has scored three goals in each of its three consecutive wins. The OVER (+110) on the 3.0-goals total at sportsbooks seems like a wise play, and West Ham’s Felipe Anderson (+900 first scorer, +275 any time) is a darkhorse in the individual props.

And Southampton (+290) is home to Arsenal (-105, draw +290) on Sunday in its first home game under manager Ralph Hasenhüttl, who seems unlikely to have his team sit back. That reality make the both teams to score props worth examining, with Yes / Over 2.5 (-105) being the chalk pick. In winning margin props, Arsenal by two goals (+425) offers good value.

The next time Sergio Aguero wears a club shirt different from Manchester City, it’ll be because he’s going home.

Aguero said he doesn’t understand the Real Madrid transfer rumors, claiming that he’s never had a problem with new boss Pep Guardiola, and expressed passion for City.

The prolific striker left childhood club Independiente for Atletico Madrid in 2006, joining Man City in 2011. Speaking with South America’s ESPN Radio, Aguero said his post-City destination isn’t in Europe.

From Sky Sports:

“For now I’m fine at Manchester City, and the day I leave it will be to return to Independiente. How long has it been rumoured about Real Madrid? I’m very happy at City and more so now with Pep.

“This month I’ve been thinking very positively. In the last few weeks my head has changed a lot.”

Do you buy it?

Though his arrival won’t happen for years, Independiente is eighth in the Argentina Primera Division table under manager Gabriel Milito, the former Barca and Zaragoza defender .

Pellegrini raves after Aguero scores five; Striker was less than 100 percent

Sergio Aguero scored five goals in 20 minutes, and he wasn’t even at full fitness.

Scary stuff, huh?

Manuel Pellegrini explained that Aguero’s health was behind the decision to take his star striker off despite Aguero sitting on the brink of history with a PL-record-tying five tallies in a 6-1 win over visiting Newcastle United.

He also said it’s good to score goals, and be in first place, showing that even PL managers can approach NFL-level obvious cliche talk.

From the BBC:

“Sergio Aguero is different. In other games he was maybe having a lot of chances but not scoring, but today he returned to his normal amount of chances he creates but this time he scored.

“He was not upset about going off. He was having treatment at half time and it was a risk for him to finish the whole game.”

The way Kevin De Bruyne and Aguero combined to carve up the Magpies’ back line, the Argentine could’ve had six or seven had he played all 90 (let alone healthy). Bonkers stuff from one of the world’s best finishers.

The knee injury Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero suffered against Crystal Palace on Saturday will keep him out of City’s UEFA Champions League clash with Italian champions Juventus on Tuesday.

Aguero’s injury was confirmed by City boss Manuel Pellegrini on Monday, as the leading goalscorer in the Premier League last season hobbled off in the first half at Selhurst Park.

Only time will tell how long the 27-year-old is sidelined for, as Pellegrini stated that a scan on the knee injury will reveal more but he’s hopeful of having the Argentine international back for the clash with West Ham United on Saturday.

“Aguero is not fit for the game tomorrow. He has an injury to his knee,” Pellegrini said. “I hope he will be okay for the weekend, but we have to see the results of the scans.”

Kevin De Bruyne came on for Aguero in the first half of City’s 1-0 win against Palace, and Pellegrini said that the $86 million summer signing from Wolfsburg impressed against Palace on his debut but didn’t confirm if he will start against Juventus on Tuesday.

City have won five from from to start of the PL season in fine form, as they sit on top of the table and have already opened up an 11-point gap on reigning champs Chelsea. Due to that fact, many believe City are now the clear favorites to win the PL this season but success in the UCL, a competition they never got past the last 16 of, may now be of greater importance to Pellegrini.

In other team news ahead of the big clash against Juve at the Etihad Stadium, Pellegrini mentioned that either Wilfried Bony or Raheem Sterling (who missed the trip to Palace) will likely play up front, while he also stated the David SilvaSamir Nasri and Fernandinho have recovered and will feature.
