Snowball scandal in Sofia: Rivals CSKA, Levski clash as coach ‘knocked out’

Bulgarian rivals Levski and CSKA Sofia clashed on Sunday in the capital city, and the wintry conditions in eastern Europe provided fans with a bit of fun.

However, that fun soon proved too much as Levski Sofia’s fans were accused of throwing a snowball at CSKA coach Stoycho Mladenov which caused him to collapse.

The coach claimed to have lost consciousness but this crazy report from the BBC quotes Levski fans who are outraged by Mladenov’s actions after snowballs were thrown at the CSKA bench throughout the match.

This is in fact, real life.

CSKA launched a complaint about the conduct of Levski’s fans in their 3-0 win, and Levski’s supporters have since described Mladenov’s reaction as “disgusting to watch” and that his “over-acting was so poor.” As for the Levski fans, 100 or so were stopped by police as they tried to run onto the pitch after their team conceded their third and final goal in the derby defeat.

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) will meet on Tuesday to discuss Snowball-gate, as Levski have recently faced sanctions from UEFA after sections of their fans were deemed to have mocked the anti-racism campaign.

Let’s hope weather conditions heat up in Bulgaria or who knows, we could have an army of snowmen invading the pitch next…
