If you haven’t played FIFA, you know someone who lives for it. And if you don’t play it right now, you will have played it in the past. So, you know how important these rankings are.

The top 20 ranked players in EA Sports’ FIFA 19 video game have been announced and there’s plenty of outrage debate on social media about these rankings.

First up, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are ahead of the rest with a rating of 94 and that’s fair enough. While Neymar is in third on his own ahead of an elite group of seven players on 91.

Three Premier League players (Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and David De Gea) were included in the top 10, while the likes of Mohamed Salah and David Silva just missed out on the top 20. Premier League stars Harry Kane and N'Golo Kante were included in the top 20 for the first time.

Needless to say that has caused plenty of uproar about the new rankings…

Below are the top 20 players from EA Sports’ new game, with the top 10 revealed on Wednesday.

FIFA19 is going to hit video game consoles everywhere later this month, and EA Sports has captured players discussing their ratings the same way we do.

I, for one, am still stung by Jamaal Lascelles‘ FIFA rating of 76 last season.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Hugo Lloris, and most hilariously Casemiro make appearances in this promo video, which also features Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne making a “public statement” asking for higher ratings on behalf of all players.

It’s an entertaining watch, for sure.

EA also released the 100th to 81st ranked players in the game, including Riyad Mahrez (99), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (98), Raheem Sterling (97), and Virgil Van Dijk (82).

By the way, Fabinho ranked 85 despite not being able to get in Liverpool’s team is something else.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the latest player to grace the cover of EA Sports’ FIFA franchise.

Ronaldo supplants Marco Reus, who ended Lionel Messi’s four-year run on the cover.

And Ronaldo is going to look extra… Ronaldo-y. From EA Sports’ press release:

To deliver innovation in FIFA 18, Cristiano Ronaldo’s data was recently recorded during a training session at a mobile EA Capture studio in Madrid. Data capture of Ronaldo’s acceleration, run cadence, skills, and shooting technique were all recorded to bring veracity to his likeness and personality in FIFA 18. His data also informed important gameplay elements including fluidity, player responsiveness and explosiveness.

We’re taking delight in knowing how seriously he took celebrating his goals with no fans or teammates around.
