Leicester City’s is defending its top four spot from several comers as the Premier League returns, the coronavirus pandemic pausing Brendan Rodgers’ impressive season at the King Power Stadium.

The pause has done something else, says Foxes star James Maddison.

The nine-goal, three-assist playmaker says the break has emboldened love for the sport for Maddison and his teammates.

“When you can’t do what you love every day and it gets taken away from you like it did, you realize how much you appreciate the life that we did,” he said.

Leicester meets Watford, Brighton, Chelsea, and Everton before the end of the day on July 1.

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson continues to shed light on the fight against Batten disease, wearing an orange shirt to bring awareness to the problem.

According to Cheshire Live, Robertson learned of the disease from a mascot, as young Amelia Carroll led him out onto the pitch for a game against Man City last year.

Amelia and her brother Ollie suffer from the rare disease, “(CLN2) which affects a child’s speech, senses, mobility and can cause seizures.”

The family later met with Robertson and Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool’s Melwood training facility. They have helped bring awareness to the Carrolls’ fundraising after the government dropped funding for the expensive treatment that helped Amelia avoid many of the effects of the disease.

Newcastle United is hoping its big money summer buy of 2019 will be its big money summer scorer of 2020.

Joelinton scored the winning goal in a friendly against Championship neighbors Middlesbrough on Tuesday, completing a comeback after the Magpies went down 2-0.

Yoshinori Muto began the comeback and Miguel Almiron scored off a Allan Saint-Maximin pass as Newcastle came back for a 3-2 win.

The 23-year-old Joelinton arrived from Hoffenheim after scoring 11 times with nine assists last season but has just three goals and three assists in his first season on Tyneside.

Premier League social media wrap: Liverpool, Leicester return

Premier League sides are back training, albeit in small groups, and there are definitely some good vibes to be had in seeing the fellas on the pitch.

For this stroll around Premier League social media, we’ll start with one of two top teams who returned for their first days Wednesday: Liverpool and Manchester United.

[ VIDEO: Premier League highlights ]

We’ll focus on Anfield, having learned a bit about United’s day from Harry Maguire.

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson has proven a few things over the coronavirus pause.

One is that he’s clearly aware of his role in the greater community, and that he feels a duty to help those in need.

Another, and we know this already, is that he loves banter.

That was on show when the left back posted a photo of him leaping for a ball, labeling it a wayward pass from teammate Joe Gomez.

We’ll let that headline a few tweets from the impending Premier League champions, including some wild hair to continue Chelsea’s trend from Tuesday.

Another top three side, Leicester City, is back at it as well.

James Maddison brought a little levity to the occasion by throwing some love to Ben Chilwell.. from a safe distance of course.

Let’s stay in Leicester for an example of the Tweet phrase that was so prevalent amongst PL player it might as well have been a hashtag.

How did it feel to be back? Good or great is the only answer.

We’ve chosen Kasper Schmeichel’s Tweet because his hair has reached ponytail length.

News away from the training pitch includes Chelsea backstop Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Athletic Bilbao product saluted former teammate and Basque living legend Aritz Aduriz on retiring from his legendary playing career.

Jack Grealish was among many Premier League stars putting their own spin on the “On This Day” phenomenon.

The playmaker ran out onto the pitch as a first team Aston Villa player six years ago today in a 4-0 loss to Manchester City.

The appearance came after a full season’s loan at Notts County. He only played two minutes, but he’ll clearly not forget it any time soon.

Sheffield United was celebrating a terrific memory, too.

The Blades won Premier League promotion last season, and May 7 was their parade through the city.

Manager Chris Wilder was enjoying himself as much as anyone, as retweeted by Billy Sharp.

Leicester City stars were also looking back at the May 7 that saw them lift the unlikeliest trophy in Premier League history.

We’ll choose Jeffrey Schlupp’s joyful photo with his teammates and former boss Claudio Ranieri.

The ePremier League Invitational is back for a second go-round.

James Maddison’s FIFA exploits have moved to a more official channel after his humiliation of Hamza Choudhury via bet earlier this week.

This time, it was love for his teammates in a positive way as he celebrated along with eAyoze Perez during a defeat of Crystal Palace’s Max Meyer.

The Premier League world was very focused on the eSports world on Tuesday, though there was room for a birthday celebration for a Wolves star and an admirable move from Scotland and England internationals.

[ VIDEO: Premier League highlights ]

James Maddison saw his ePremier League Invitational match versus Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson postponed, but he still got stuck into a game.

On the flip side: Hamza Choudhury lost a bet, and boy is the outcome hilarious.

The Leicester City back made a video game bet with Maddison that did not go in the player’s favor.

The payout is just incredible.

“Little boys make big mistakes and I’m a little boy who made the mistake of asking Madders for a rematch,” Choudhury  said.

I mean, honestly, this could swing the Maddison versus Jack Grealish debate in favor of the Foxes star. I don’t make the rules.

Tuesday is the birthday of a North American superstar.

We’re talking about Wolves center forward Raul Jimenez, who was absolutely loving his 29th birthday.

The El Tri star issued a big thank you at the end of the day and also went on a bit of an RT fest to amplify those wishing him the best (including an interesting aged photo with teammate Jonny Otto).

Despite the inactivity, transfer news all across Europe continues to brew up.

[ VIDEO: Premier League highlights ]

Time and time again this season, Leicester City’s star James Maddison has been linked to a move out of King Power Stadium, with Manchester United reportedly topping the list of preferred next destinations for the 23-year-old.

But the past speculations seem to have been thrown at the window, as Maddison recently claimed he feels “very, very happy” at Leicester despite the outside noise of a big-time transfer.

“I feel right at home at Leicester,” the attacking midfielder  said. “I feel like part of the furniture already and I love it here. I love the lads, I love the fans, (we’ve got) a great manager, so I’m very, very happy.”

The England international has made noise this season with the Foxes, following his nine goals and three assists throughout all competitions.

Time will tell what step the creative attacker will take next. What’s for sure is that Maddison has made it clear that he’s not in a rush to leave Leicester for good.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, La Liga giants Barcelona are closely monitoring Ajax and Argentina full-back Nicolas Tagliafico.

The 27-year-old was linked to a move to Spain last year, however, with Junior Firpo possibly on his way out of the Camp Nou this summer, the Blaugrana will reportedly launch a bid for the Ajax player.

Tagliafico’s agent reportedly has spoken with Barcelona on a number of occasions to discuss a deal. The Spanish defending champions are one of many top European sides looking for the defender’s signature this summer, however.
