Transfer rumor roundup: USMNT’s Long to London, Newcastle linked with pair

Could USMNT center back Aaron Long be headed to the Premier League?

The 26-year-old could join West Ham United’s stable of center backs, which includes Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena, and Angelo Ogbonna.

Sky Sports says that the Red Bulls defender has drawn the interest of Lyon and Fiorentina, but been offered to the Irons should they match his $5 million release clause.

Unable to find a place with Portland and Seattle, Long spent a few seasons in the USL before earning a place with RBNY.

Now 11-times capped by the USMNT with two goals, Long could be bringing his talents to London’s Olympic Stadium.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Newcastle United has the chance to sign oft-injured Danny Welbeck on a free transfer.

The longtime Arsenal striker, weaned at Manchester United, scored five times in 12 matches last season in a return to injury woes following a 43-match season the prior year.

Newcastle is also being linked with a former defender. James Tavernier has gone on to captain Glasgow Rangers, and the 27-year-old would cost around $10 million.

Surely Steven Gerrard would want more for the defender, but prices haven’t met quality for Scottish Premiership players as we’ve seen with Kieran Tierney at Celtic.

Transfer rumor roundup: Allan to PSG, Meunier to Everton

Paris Saint-Germain is at the heart of a trio of transfer rumors, including their long-term pursuit of Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Thomas Tuchel’s club is hoping to improve their midfield in a few ways, linked with Gueye, Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches, and Napoli’s Allan.

Everton’s play involves getting a big name player at Goodison Park, with the Toffees said to need Gueye and cash to pry Thomas Meunier away from PSG (and help with Financial Fair Play).

Meunier is two years younger than Gueye, 30-times capped by Belgium, and plays right back. Everton upgraded its left back spot with Lucas Digne in the summer, and 30-year-old captain Seamus Coleman currently mans right back.

PSG is also said to be hopeful of getting Allan for around $70 million. The 28-year-old Brazilian leads Napoli with 3.6 tackles per game and only Kalidou Koulibaly and Marek Hamsik have the ball more than Allan.

Sanches, 21, is the youngest of the bunch and has been used regularly as a sub for Niko Kovac’s Bavarians.

Calcio Mercato says Fulham, Newcastle United, and Cardiff City’s hopes for defensive reinforcements include Cameroonian defender Michael Ngadeu.

The 28-year-old Ngadeu has 18 months left on his contract at Slavia Prague, and is a regular for Cameroon.

And a former Newcastle man is being linked with a move back to the Premier League, as Rangers’ captain James Tavernier is said to be interesting Southampton to the tune of a $10 million purchase.

WATCH: Gedion Zelalem picks up pair of assists in Rangers debut

Gedion Zelalem’s Rangers debut was a success, but not an unqualified one for the on-loan Arsenal teenager.

Playing on loan from Arsenal for the second-tier Scottish side, Zelalem picked up a pair of assists on debut in Rangers’ 5-0 League Cup win over Airdrieonians, a Scottish League One side.

Forget the weaker opposition for a second, and enjoy that the 18-year-old Zelalem was dynamite. From the beautiful pass on his first assist, the kid was on.

[ CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WRAP: Tuesday | Weds. ]

And while the James Tavernier driblle that led to his second assist shows just how far down the pecking order we’ll find Airdrieonians, it’s encouraging. Despite some in the anti-Klinsmann crowd begging for the teen to disappoint, it seems all Zelalem does is impress at every level.

Oh, and a few days ago, this:

The 18-year-old doesn’t turn 19 til January, and this wasn’t even Scottish Championship opposition, but he just might come home to Arsenal from the physical Scottish league looking 25.
