WATCH: Chile’s Vidal gives a clinic on heading… with an own goal

Maybe Chile’s Arturo Vidal really wants to see Paraguay earn a spot in the 2018 World Cup.

We’ve seen some spectacular own goals this year, from Colorado’s Jared Watts to Young Boys’ Kasim Adams Nuhu, but few ever have the genuine look of a dynamite goal.

Furthermore, we’ve seen Vidal score a lot of great goals, so his clinical finish of a Paraguay free kick beyond his backstop is almost impossible for a brain to process.

If Paraguay holds on to beat Chile — it’s halftime as of this post’s time — Los Guaraníes will be within two points of their Thursday hosts and closer to moving into the all-important Top Five in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.

This is the worst — or best, depending how you look at it — own goal you’ll see all week. Maybe all month. And it’s in the running for the worst/best own goal of the year as well.

Colombian goalkeeper Wanerge Delgado, who plays for Bolivian side Club Aurora, is the unlucky culprit of this spectacular own goal.

As the ball makes its way into Aurora’s penalty area, a Sportivo Luqueño (Paraguay) player whips the ball into the Delgado’s six-yard box. Delgado comes out strong and uses both hands to punch the ball away, but ends up hitting a Luqueño right in the face at close range. The ball then bounds more than 20 feet into the air in the general direction of goal.

Delgado, beginning to panic at this point, hurriedly sprints toward his own goal line, where he’s able to make the catch just before it crosses the plane. Only he drops the ball as his momentum carries him into his own goal.

WATCH: Aurelien Chedjou and a flying own goal under zero pressure

Aurelien Chedjou hates when his goalkeeper catches the ball.

That’s the only explanation as to why the Lille defender scored this own goal whilst in uniform for Cameroon this week.

Chedjou, 29, boosted Thailand’s — yes, that Thailand — lead to 2-0 with this own goal, plucking the ball out of the air before Guy N’Dy Assembé could snare it.

Fortunately for Chedjou, Cameroon came back to win 3-2.

VfR Aalen’s Sascha Mockenhaupt will hear about this weekend’s own goal for a long, long time.

The 23-year-old German defender was attempting to win a loose ball, and instead struck a strong ball past his keeper.

Sandhausen is the club of German-American striker Andrew Wooten, and won the match 2-0.

But is it worse than this Lukas Podolski corner kick? The Inter man may’ve not allowed a goal, but yikes.

VIDEO: Paul Dummett expertly heads over his keeper for own goal

Well this one’s about as goofy as it gets in the Premier League.

With Newcastle leading 1-0, defender Paul Dummett attempted to head a ball back to keeper Jak Alnwick.

Instead, the Geordie man popped the ball over his netminder for an own goal he won’t soon forget.

Fortunately for Dummett, Jack Colback restored Newcastle’s one-goal lead a few minutes later with a scorching shot from outside the 18.

It’s 2-1 at half.
