Andre Ayew will try to build off a thrilling debut for Swans as he leads an attack with Jefferson Montero, Bafetimbi Gomis and dynamic if mercurial midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

For the Magpies, there’s a lot of attacking firepower on the bench. Ayoze Perez is joined by Aleksandar Mitrovic and Rolando Aarons, and could feature should Gabriel Obertan or Papiss Cisse falter.

In the 2015 International Champions Cup, reigning Spanish and European champions Barcelona beat reigning MLS champs LA Galaxy 2-1 in front of a record crowd of 93,226 at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Luis Suarez scored right on half time for Barca, as he swapped shirts and shared a hug with former Liverpool teammate and new LA Galaxy star Steven Gerrard as both were substituted at half time. In the second half Sergio Roberto made it 2-0 but a late goal from Tommy Meyer saw an LA side largely fielding reserve players push Barca all the way. The game also saw the biggest crowd to ever watch an MLS side in action.

From southern California to northern California, and Manchester United made it two wins from two in ICC play as they beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 at Avaya Stadium. First half goals from Juan Mata and Memphis Depay put United ahead, while Andreas Periera added another in the second half. Van Gaal’s men now face Barcelona on Saturday in Santa Clara and Paris Saint-Germain in Chicago next Wednesday before heading back to England.

If you’ve bought into the notion that Swans are now a power, and they look great, perhaps you’ll disagree with the assessment. Nathan Dyer makes a second appearance in the XI, and is joined by Swansea teammate Wayne Routledge.

Newcastle teen sensation Rolando Aarons hit the scene with a scintillating sub performance against Crystal Palace, while the defense carries two big leaders: Burnley captain Jason Shackell and Stoke skipper Ryan Shawcross.

Alberto Moreno and Diego Costa make sure traditional powers Liverpool and Chelsea get a representative in the team as well.
