Atletico Madrid erases 2-goal deficit in Juventus draw

Cristiano Ronaldo’s going to like Diego Simeone a little bit less today — if possible — as the Argentine manager engineered a come-from-behind draw to get a measure of revenge for last season’s knockout round ouster.

And Ronaldo won’t be too happy with himself, either, as the Juve star missed a chance to win it in stoppage time, moments after Atletico Madrid had scored the final goal of 2-2 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano.

That left Mexican star Hector Herrera the unabashed hero, as he headed home in stoppage time.

Juve scored a beauty to open it, with Juan Cuadrado spinning a left-footed wonder strike that painted the side netting.

Blaise Matuidi had Juve up 2-0, but Atleti pulled one back via a Stefan Savic header off a set piece in the 70th minute.

That’s when Herrera nodded his goal home.

But Ronaldo… how often has he scored this kind of goal in this competition?

As Atletico Madrid seemingly has a big arrival joining a big departure, and perhaps more, while other clubs aren’t avoiding the transfer waltz this pre-World Cup Tuesday in June.

Along with the above linked news regarding Antoine Griezmann and Thomas Lemar, Atletico may be selling 27-year-old defender Stefan Savic.

The Montenegro center back is said to be interesting both Chelsea and Juventus, with a price tag of at least $47 million being bandied about the Internet.

Arsenal supporters may want to keep an extra close eye on Uruguay at this summer’s World Cup, as a future Gunner may be plying his trade underneath Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.

Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly talking with the Emirates Stadium outfit. The 22-year-old is said to carry an approximate price tag of $35 million.

Torreira can play box-to-box or sit further back in the midfield, though he sits behind Juventus’ Rodrigo Bentacur on the Uruguayan depth chart. He chewed up nearly 3200 minutes for Sampdoria last season, scoring four goals and adding an assist with 2.8 tackles and 2 interceptions per match.

MADRID (AP) Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has undergone reconstructive procedure on his mouth after losing some of his teeth after a brutal collision in a Spanish league match on Sunday.

Atletico says Godin underwent the procedure in a dental clinic in Madrid, following the team’s 1-0 home win over Valencia at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Godin had to be replaced early in the second half after colliding with Valencia goalkeeper Neto while going for a high cross into the area.

Neto’s elbow appeared to hit Godin directly on his face, and replays showed one of Godin’s teeth flying out of his mouth. The Uruguay defender bled profusely as some of his teeth were visibly out of place.

Atletico workers were reportedly sent to the field after the game to try to find his teeth.

Atletico, nine points behind league leader Barcelona, had already lost central defender Stefan Savic before halftime because of a muscle injury on his left thigh.

Atletico did not say how long the defenders will be sidelined for.
