San Lorenzo to use Viagra to counter elevation in Bolivar match

Argentine side San Lorenzo will use Viagra to cope with the harsh altitude of La Paz, Bolivia, in their upcoming Copa Libertadores semifinal against Bolivar.

The report, issued by Argentine website Globoesporte via Olé, claims that the erectile dysfunction drug will cause the players’ blood vessels to dilate, increasing blood oxygenation and decreasing the effects of altitude. Viagra is currently not on FIFA’s list of banned substances.

San Lorenzo will enter next Wednesday’s match in La Paz with a significant advantage, holding a 5-0 aggregate lead through the first leg. Nevertheless, the 3,600 meters of elevation will provide a stiff challenge, with many opposing clubs having fallen victim to the altitude.

San Lorenzo previously used Viagra in their Libertadores match against Independiente del Valle in Quito, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
