Key arrivals: Joao Pedro (Fluminese), Tom Dele-Bashiru (Man City), Craig Dawson (West Bromwich Albion), Danny Welbeck (Free), Ismaila Sarr (Rennes)

Key departures: Ben Wilmot (Loan, Swansea City), Miguel Britos (released), Dodi Lukebakio (Hertha Berlin).

Ranking their offseason: Holding onto Abdoulaye Doucoure (so far) is nice, and the rest of the crew is back after an impressive 2018-19 season. The club-record deal for Ismaila Sarr on deadline day was a welcome surprise, while Welbeck and Dawson add real experience. Right now you’d be hard-pressed to see Watford as anything lower than midtable.

Star player: Doucoure — The Frenchman didn’t repeat his offensive heroics of the previous season, but there’s nothing to suggest he won’t continue to be one of the finest players in the top flight.

Coaches’ Corner: Javi Gracia — Can he coax another hot start out of the Hornets? Watford will be tested by Everton and West Ham inside of their first four fixtures, but all 12 of their first 12 available points will be there for the taking.

PST predicts: The questions don’t revolve around the talent, but whether the Hornets have added enough to keep pace with Wolves, Everton, and West Ham. Too much quality here for a relegation scrap, not enough to creep into the Top Six.
